Home Challenge
Hey all!
I know, no substantial post for a while! But I’m hoping that within the next week to receive some material from a friend so that I can post a really wonderful entry; we’ll see what Jesus wants!
In the meantime I thought this Home Challenge thing might be fun, especially since I imagine most of you have more than just a single room! That’s all I have; just a li’l ol’ room with a bed and stuff. Luckily I have my own bathroom, but that hasn’t always been the case. Anywho, I guess the first day you post pictures of where you sleep. Here goes!
“Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep”

Here’s my bed, all neat and tidy.

Here’s my vow cross.

Here’s my nightstand with:
-holy water (to bless myself before bed)
-a picture of my Blessed Mother!
-a photograph of my dear St. Gemma Galgani
-a photograph of St. Therese of Lisieux (sorry about the glare)
-a photograph of St. Bernadette Soubirous
-a holy card of St. Gemma with a prayer on the back
-my alarm clock
-a small crucifix that @living_embers gave me; it is a treasure that I pray with every night.
-a rosary ring
That’s where I sleep!

Cool! Would you mind adding a link back to my home challenge so others can play too?

My mother always said that cleanliness is next to Godliness.
However, if anyone saw my bedroom they’d think I was the spawn of Satan himself. Hahaha. I can barely see the floor sometimes in the midst of papers, books, and… socks.
that looks like a dorm room or a prison. But it’s neat!
Now you’ve got me to thinking…..my husband’s mother and her twin were devout Catholics, but were mediums, if you will, as well. Needless to say, we have plenty of Holy water around here. I suppose my question is whether or not an exorcism isn’t akin to the tasks of a Catholic medium?
@NightCometh - Done!
@QuantumStorm - Well it just so happened that housekeeping comes on Wednesdays, and that’s when I took my pictures!
@Babyboomerjill - It’ll look less dorm-ish or prison-ish as the days go on, no worries!
@Ancient_Scribe - you got a good attitude! lol I’m afraid to put my bed up it’s just as monk “ish” lol bed, lamp, books and what else do you need.
@Kellsbella - I’ve never heard of a Catholic medium; what did your mother-in-law and her twin do exactly?
@Babyboomerjill - When it comes to sleep, not much is required. I have one pillow for my one head, and what number of blankets I need for my one body to stay warm through the night; currently a flat sheet does the trick. Life doesn’t have to be complicated, as you’ve pointed out!
There is something sad and happy about the room… all at the same time. =)
Love,
Ann
@hesacontradiction - There is nothing I lack that I didn’t give up freely out of love.
@Ancient_Scribe - They had the shining. They would cross your forehead and foretell your future. Um, they also would let you know if an evil spririt was inhabiting your body. It’s interesting, because I was told I was being possessed on this one occassion, which happened to be when I was being picked on.
I’m just wondering if an exorcism isn’t somehow related….By that, I suppose I mean that some may believe you’re dealing with what could and would be considered fantasies or dreams, per se; but are they? Do not negative thoughts, words and actions have their own power? So if it is a possessive negative power that must be expelled; are the two (a Catholic medium and a Catholic priest) not somehow intertwined?
Sorry for droning on. I’ll get ya a beer now.
I used to have that exact same alarm clock.
It is interesting to see what different people pick up on in a photo.
I have Holy water on my bedside stand also, but I don’t often enough think to use it. The people I want to use it on aren’t around. hehe
Nice…
@Kellsbella - That is bizarre! Granted, I am only building my opinion on what little you’ve told me, but I can assure you that there is no such thing as a “Catholic medium.” There are, however, Catholics who are mediums but again there is no vocation in the Church nor any practice, tradition, etc. encouraged by the Church involving such things. In fact such practices are condemned in the Bible!
Exorcism is a ministry undertaken by specially trained priests to help a person who is being possessed or otherwise tormented by a demonic force; it does not involve speaking with the dead or trying to gain information about the past, present or future. It is a ministry of healing.
As far as whether the things that exorcists deal with are real; please trust me when I say that they are. I have spoken to priests who have had experiences of the demonic that are utterly terrifying, and to play with the spiritual realm like these “mediums” you described is a very, very dangerous thing. The only thing that would intertwine the dealings of a “Catholic medium” and an exorcist is that they are both in contact with a whole other reality that is both negative and extremely dangerous. The difference is that the medium does it for their own interests or somehow stands to gain by their practice, whereas the exorcist does it to get rid of the demonic force–not hold conversation or somehow gain by its power or knowledge–for the sake of bringing peace and healing to the possessed. Really, mediums and exorcists are the exact opposites of one another. I hope this is helpful!
@lucylwrites - Well, Lucy, the explanation is obvious: I stole this from you. How’s that for a “wake up” call? Get it?
