If THAT picture isn’t cool and fitting at the same time. Dang. I want that framed.
So spidyredneckjedi wants a memorization. Well I’ll give it a shot.
I have a lot of early memories of this guy and, I am ashamed to admit, most of them involve people being mean to him. I remember in Boy Scouts when he was the only kid who did not know how to use a hammer. At the time we thought it was hilarious, but looking back it is kind of sad. Some kids just are never taught such things. I remember we all made him think we were lost on this long hike when, in actuality, we were all standing in front of the trail that would lead us home. I remember kids teasing him relentlessly about many things: his being overweight, his being poor, his strange geeky tastes.
I am ashamed to admit that, at an early age, I participated in some of these activities.
Sometime late in middle school or early in high school (I can’t remember exactly) he moved down South and we thought we’d never see him again. We just let him fade out. Then, for no reason, he was back. Out of the blue.
By this time I had changed considerably. I had gone through a time of social rejection and found myself sitting in the back of the room or along the wall, staying out of people’s way, staring at the floor as I went place to place. I had only a few friends, I loved Star Wars and classical music, and I got excellent grades. When spidyredneckjedi came back, I completely forgot about the years in the past and quickly embraced him as a friend and never looked back.
Ever since I can safely say that no man I’ve yet know has shown more integrity, sincerity, and good nature than spidyredneckjedi . He is honest, intelligent, funny, trustworthy, humble, courteous, hard-working, and if I am King Arthur, he is definitely one of my knights. spidyredneckjedi has over come hardship after hardship, climbing out of every hole, leaping every trench, taking every cheap shot and keeping his flag held high where everyone can see it and no one can touch it. Yes, he likes Spiderman, but I won’t hold that against him. After seeing Spiderman II and how he saved the people on the train, Batman and Spiderman can get along with each other now that Spidy has earned his “wings” in my book.
Oh and he likes Star Wars. As far as I’m concerned spidyredneckjedi is OK in my book. And believe me, people WANT to be in my book.
Uh….. I’m going to have to go with Wolverine on this one.
Take care pal.
Well, that is it as far as requests go. Is there anyone who has not been memorized yet that wants to? Just leave a comment and I’ll do my best.

Um….C-ello….I do!!!
If you feel like picking your brain through the…very long period of time we’ve known each other for a suitable memory that stands out, I’ll be inclined to read it. Even if it’s bad.
I think our invention of Butt Slot as a negative name is too recent for memorization.
Butt Slot!!!! :-p
-Me
Eh, if you think you’ve got anything to say about me….go for it…
Thank you for that. I don’t recall you being among the groups who hurt me in the past, except for the Boy Scouts hike, and even then I only saw you as a member of the hike, not as one of the perpetrators. Some of those memories I’ve blocked out of my past, just because dwelling on them just shows you the truth of life: people are alwys cruel towards one another. It was one thing to have my friends and peers do that to me at school, but that wasn’t the only place I faced such discrimination and insults.
Throughout middle school there was a reason I wasn’t as open in school, and after coming back from the south in the middle of high school, that reason finally left with my parents divorce. I found that fear of many sorts was no longer an overpowering element in my life, and for once I could be myself and experience things I’d wanted to. From there, my life has been lived in the manner you described, because too many of the things in life we will experience are painful, and dwelling on them doesn’t help anyone.
As well, for a while in middle school we did talk/hang out with one another, especially at social outings like dances, as I fell into the same crowd as you and TheIdiotSavant, until some unmentionable person came between us, and somehow ended that group of friendships for me.
In my opinion, you were always among those people who made up for their past wrongs even early on in middle school, mainly because you would associate with me and shared the same interests as me. Even earlier than that, I remember associating with you. If you were among the groups who did make fun of me back then, I’ve since erased that from my mind because your friendship with me has made me a much better and stronger person over all. Other people have never owned up to those hardships, and probably never will. As is, I have had my fair share of heartaches and obstacles to overcome in my life, but I would never change any element of my life, including the friendships I’ve maintained over the years.
All of those qualities you list about myself towards the end, you exemplify yourself in everything that you do. I couldn’t ask for a better friend in this world if I tried, and thank you for the trip down memory road, no matter how painful the journey might be. After all, the truth does sometimes hurt, but it’s how we deal with that information that makes us who we are. Sorry for the elongated posting, and hope you have a great week!
Oh, btw. The photo at the top is right from one of the Batman/Spider-Man comic book covers. I’ll get those to you sometime over summer break to read. They were pretty good comic books. I enjoyed them, at least. The first one (the one whose cover is pictured) I felt was the better of the two, though. Once again, have a great week!
Jake, your comments always make me smile. Thank you!
I love reading stories such as this most recent memorization. It truly takes a strong person to beat down the barriors that keep them from getting to know somebody who’s really quite awesome, and an even stronger person to admit their guilt. That’s too rad. And yes, I use the word “rad” seriously.
Jake, I’ve always loved your honesty! Its always interesting to look back on life and see how you handled diversity and how you were treated by others. Compare that with your life now and it’s neat to see personal growth.
Plus anyone who likes Star Wars is up high in my book!!
I can relate to Spidey’s situation, having been the four-eyed fat kid in grade school. He is lucky to have you for a friend.
The hypnotist I saw wasn’t Jim Wand, but a guy who used to be a veterinarian. He said you learn more things in vet school besides just animal stuff. Maybe I’ll be able to hypnotize people someday:) Jim Wand comes to Luther every year though. I never have the guts to be hypnotized, but I really want to see what it’s like. I really enjoyed reading your post this week and I hope you have a good weekend!
Pretty interesting reading these memorizations jake…. thanks for the comments you always leave me! i havent talked to you for a while hope all is well…
