  • Well I am back from my weekend in Jackson, Wyoming. I went up there to receive my fourth and final degree in knighthood, so now I am Sir Jacob instead of just Jake. Don’t worry, I won’t make my friends and family address me in such a manner, but I will sign things with my new title before my first name and most probably introduce myself with it too.

The trip up was… an adventure, to say the least. The weather was kind of bad the first night, so we stayed in a hotel at the half-way point of our journey in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Then we began the rest of the trip north from there and about 15-20 miles south of our destination while driving through a canyon we witnessed a small portion of Nature’s wrath. An avalanche came sweeping down the hill, suddenly depositing a 10-foot wall of snow across the road. The pickup truck hauling a trailer in front of us stopped, and we tried. Oh we really tried, but we were on an icy downhill slope in a Honda Accord (our church’s Honda Accord no less) and we hit a protruding bar on the trailer, ripping out our front right headlight and the entire bumper, which was promptly jammed into the backseat. My friend, Ben, was driving and he insists that if the church doesn’t want the bumper, he is keeping it as a trophy. So we waited a couple hours to wait for the snow plows to clear the road and also to fill out police paperwork before we took off towards Jackson. We got to the church, ran downstairs to change into tuxedos, and then underwent the degree ceremony. After it was over, we had a prime rib dinner and then attended the evening Mass, at which we were formally knighted, having the blade of a sword tap us on the shoulders and everything. It was a great feeling to finally acheive a dream like achieving knighthood. It has been an ambition for the better half of this past decade, and now I am living it!

I hope all your weekends were all well and good. Mine was not terribly bad save for that avalanche. Watch out for those by the way; they have a habit of sneaking up on you.

  • I never heard about the accident!  Thank God, you and Ben are all right.  I’m sure it was scary for a minute or two.  I can relate.  When Chris and I got in that accident in December, I remember clearly seeing the minivan coming at me and not having any control in the situation.  I could only duck and wait and see.  Thanks to Chris’ quick thinking, we got hit in the back door rather then mine.  I’m just glad you’re OK.  Have a great day, love.

  • Hail to thee Sir Knight! And may it be that thou have a life full of chivalry and valor.

    Congrats!

  • Wow, what a weekend. I cant believe our Jake is a knight. I know a knight. I never thought I would be able to say that. But now I can. Wooh! I know a knight! Im so happy for you, finally being able to fulfill one of your lifelong dreams.

  • Yeah, I ran out of cookies today. I dont know how I will survive. Maybe Ill have to make a cookie run or something. Or I could buy some. That wouldnt be the same though. They need to be homemade, otherwise they just dont do it for me.

  • Yeah, I know.  But I couldn’t help myself.  Did you already know the answer?

  • FYI I voted for you.  Of course, I voted for you!!! Duh!

  • The invitations have ballots for you to choose best actor, actress, etc.  Of course, I voted for you for best actor and best newcomer.  You can vote for whomever you wish, as well as voting for board members.  Being in a play gives you the right/responsibility even if you haven’t been a paying patron.

  • Out of cookies???!!!  I would ship you more but you’ll be home soon enough.  You know, cook out with MEAT, and maybe even more cookies.  Besides, if I sent you too many you’ld get tired of them.

  • WHO IS BARNUM?  P.T. Barnum.  The Greatest Show On Earth circus guy.  “There’s a sucker born every minute” coiner.  He made big business out of frauds, fakes and freaks.  Discovered Tom Thumb, sponsered Jenny Lind here in America.  Man, Chris and I have to get the musical that Michael Crawford is in as Barnum for you to watch.  Very interesting story, actually.

  • My most humble and sincere apologies.  I wasn’t trying to yell at you.  I was surprised that (I thought) you didn’t now P.T. Barnum.  I should know better.  Can I still have a hug when you get home?

  • congratulations, Jake!  Glad to hear you’re achieved your dream of becoming a knight.

I hope to read the Shadow Dawn trilogy after break here…  I found Shadow Star at a Borders in Minneapolis, so I bought it…  Lots of fun, that conference was…  I’ll blog more about it after break.  Have a great week, and ttyl.

  • thats awesome!!! congrats on becoming a REAL knight!!

  • Oh my, sounds like you had quite an adventure! That’s the only reason I don’t like Wyoming as much as I would- the weather. But otherwise it’s simply gorgeous. Man, those roads though… whew. So, SIR Jacob That’s pretty darn cool. I am technically Lady Katharyn, supposedly through family background. But my stupid ancestors ran away from the oppression in their country where they were royalty, so now I’m just Kacey. Quite a step down huh? Well, have a great day!

  • *huge hug*

Great Job Sir Jacob!  I’m really proud of you :D
