The Dare (NSFW if you work for a public or government institution)
Today when checking the Xanga front page (it is all I have time to do just to keep tabs on all my Xanga friends I love and pray for; yes, YOU) I noticed a trend: some “Dare NSFW” thing.
Needless to say I know some interesting new details about some of you now… :-/
So I figured I’d better get on the band wagon and do what I usually do: try and steer the band wagon in the right direction. You want to talk about intimate, personal secrets and desires? Daring deeds? Mind-blowing, heart-igniting passion? Want to talk about “what goes on in the bedroom?” Fine. Let’s go for it. Answer these, if you DARE:
- What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be?
- What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public?
- What is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone?
- What is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie?
- Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion?
- Have you ever prayed in a public place?
- Have you ever participated in a religious service other than your own?
- Have you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God?
- Are you in a good relationship with God right now?
- What do think God’s wish is for you?
- Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s?
- Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this?
- Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God?
- When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of?
- What is on your “spiritual bucket list?”
I’m tagging @kellsbella, @QuantumStorm, @ShimmerBodyCream, @NightCometh, @Semper_Medusa, @DraculVanHelsing, @captivated_byHislove, @walkintotheseaaa, @hesacontradiction
Tag others if you would; now that we’ve seen into the bedrooms of so many Xangans, let’s see if we can’t look into some hearts…
And yes, it really did take “The Dare” to make me stay up past 11pm on a school night and update my Xanga for the first time in many, many weeks. But please believe me when I say that I miss all of you, but I pray for you constantly. My presence on Xanga may have diminished because of my new mission, but my love for all of you remains.

I really like this one, far better than the sex ones running around. I’ll have to think about this a bit, though, because some of the questions are questions I’m not sure I could answer on a public post.
I want to know YOUR answers!(I don’t think any of these apply to me)
Good questions. I can’t wait to see their answers!
I’ll message you the answers because I think they are important things to think about, but I’m still struggling with letting others know that I’m a spiritual person. :-/ Currently working on that…
Awesome post.
You have a beautiful mission, so you keep doing that. I haven’t been on in days, so I had to go find out what you were talking about. I think I’d rather take your dare. So here goes. 1). Weekend after Mark died when I was 17. I wanted to go to church so bad, but had to work. When I got to the restaurant, the electricity was out, so they told me to come back later. 2). Vintage Catholic rosary with Mother Mary medal, Election Day- 2012. 3). I had a brain injury patient that me and his Mom were close. I brought him a teddy bear, to help prevent the contractures in his arms and everyday before work, I would visit him and do mouth care because I was the only one he would let do it. (He was in the ventilation hospital across the street at the time) 4). I would have to say “What Dreams May Come”. 5). If you count internet, yes. Muslims. 6.) Yes7). Catholic. (I was raised Methodist, but my cousin was Catholic)8.) Yes. Posting feelings on the internet.9.) I like to think we are all work in progress. Improving.10). To take care of one another.11). Mine… but I’m working on it.12). There are times that I used to be selfish, but I grew up with poverty most of my life and saw what it does to people. I try to help out where and when I can to ease the suffering of others.13). I used to, but keeping contact with other friends of religious faith, helps.14). Whatever image that comforts us.15). Spiritual bucket list? My goal is simple. To be able to feel God’s grace in everything, everyday. Great idea!
I like this and I will consider answering this dare. It surely would be less embarrassing than the other one going around.
well, I came back with my answers, all prepared in word and when I posted it here I got gobblydegook html stuff. I guess I’m not the best at computers. I’ll try to post a different way.
Post run high; connectedness to all living things. A chain with a cross on it. Gave a wino $5 The story of Luther. No. No. Catholic No. No. IDK. Mine. No. No. IDK. Everest, where earth meets heaven.
lol lol lolI love it and I wondered what you would do if you got the dare. I find it interesting that some people are answering them so bluntly and I’m tempted to take the quiz but clean it up but yours is wonderful!
I.ll do it, but on my own site.
I hate that I can’t rec. at this site. I will take your dare, J.
What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be? I don’t know if this applies to me. I grew up in a christian family. But the first time I was impressed with the call on my life, I was 7. I used to go out for a special day with my father. We were eating at a a restaurant (we lived in Costa Rica) and I saw the owner of the restaurant chasing street kids away from the empty tables that had food left on them. I knew then I was to work with kids. What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public? Holey sock, holey pants a pin that had Black, red, white, gold and green beads on it.What is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone? Which one? I used to meet with a gal that I knew was homeless and eat a meal with her about once a week, if she showed up. I gave away toys to a family that the father had died and the mother lost her job, I cooked for them as well. I sat and ate with 2 homeless guys outside a taco bell and listened to their stories as the workers in Taco Bell watched me (I later found out that my praying with one of those guys caused him to go back to his church and get help so he could go home to his wife and kids)….the list is too long to write. What is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie? I don’t know.Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion? yesHave you ever prayed in a public place? yesHave you ever participated in a religious service other than your own? yesHave you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God? yesAre you in a good relationship with God right now? struggling but yes. What do think God’s wish is for you? I don’t know. I struggle with this as well.Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s? when I am thinking about it…. GODS. Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this? I don’t think I am selfish or have the ness part either but I struggle with wanting to do and not having the means to do.Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God? I am such a rebellious sort that my mother’s and my relationship. I don’t have any relationships that help. When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of? I don’t have an image of God in my head, I usually think of the scriptures that calm my mind and sometimes I think of a still night/day and in the stillness is His voice. What is on your “spiritual bucket list?” To one day be able to take up the call I felt on my life when I was 7. I be able to help out military people that are seperated from their families. To travel and help out those that need help. Visit missionaries in the field and bring a bit of encouragement. Send to kids on the field toys, and things they like that they can’t get there from unknown so they just know that someone (they don’t know who) was thinking about them and send just the thing they wanted or needed (I miss doing this).
This is great! I didn’t realize what this DARE survey even was until I saw someone’s post on it yesterday. I think I’m going to come back and do this once I get home. Good for you, Jacob! =)
Wow Jacob, tough questions… sure does cause one to do some introspection.
These are some very good questions and i know i will answer them. Some are a little tough but I think you’re right and it’s good you’re trying steer right back. In consideration of others and self-respect. Very good questions, I hope some dare and answer.
You didn’t tag me, but I will take the dare anyway!
You DARE a pirate, THE PIRATE??? Oh my…Gotta take this one!Sail on… sail on!!!
1. What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be?It happened before I can remember, but it blessed me with a great gift. I wake up happy every morning!2. What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public? My birthday suit. It was perfectly made by God for my needs. Although I have not worn it in public since I was a little boy.3. What is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone?I don’t know. What I consider kind and what others do is often a very different thing. I held my mother’s hand while she died – but that is kindness from my perspective. The greatest kindness may have been a passing compliment to someone who needed those few kind words more than air itself. So I do not know.4. What is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie? When Jesus was asked the greatest commandment.5. Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion? Not openly.6. Have you ever prayed in a public place?Sure! Church is in public. My room is a better place, though.7. Have you ever participated in a religious service other than your own?Yes. 8. Have you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God?I do not understand the question. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’9. Are you in a good relationship with God right now?I do not understand the word “relationship” – it is a moving target. Much like the word “love” in popular culture. It’s kinda like nailing jello to the wall. I have faith that God will use me as God sees fit. I am the clay and he is the potter.10. What do think God’s wish is for you?God will let me know in God’s time. I should listen. And sometimes I do.11. Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s?Usually the ones I can figure out first. I have a hard enough time figuring out my own desires. Do I want chocolate or to lose weight or get healthy? It may be my lot in life to be a bad example!12. Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this?I try not to. The “possession” of things is a temporary, passing thing. We tend to get the concept backwards anyway. Does part of the earth belong to us? Or do we belong to the earth? When we think we own things, often we are like the two fleas arguing about who owns the dog. And we when “own” things, maintaining them takes our time, effort, even our lives. Kind of seems like we are more owned by the things than the other way round.13. Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God?There is that “relationship” word again. I find that ALL “relationships” teach me something about God.14. When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of?Awe and wonder. Aren’t we all like the blind men and the elephant? It is helpful to talk to other blind men, never forgetting we may all be blind.15. What is on your “spiritual bucket list?”Find more thin spaces.
I am not trying to be critical but the sex one was sort of more fun.
Ty for adding a survey i can do and feel comfortable doing.
1. What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be?For me, now that I understand myself better, it would be a very negative spiritual experience. But with darkness, I realized there could be light.2. What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public?I don’t dress for religion. 3. What is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone?I try to be a kind person in general and treat others how I want to be treated. Sometimes i’m too aware of people’s feelings and let it affect my own. What is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie?Don’t have one, I don’t really like religion though.Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion?Considering I don’t consider myself to be religious, yes. Every prayer feels out of place. Have you ever prayed in a public place?Sure.Have you ever participated in a religious service other than your own?Yes. A couple of different religions.Have you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God?Yes and it has helped me tremendously. Are you in a good relationship with God right now?My version of God, yes. What do think God’s wish is for you?My God is love. That is all. I don’t know what I can believe beyond that or if I feel it is a person.Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s?My spirituality brings me strength, not fear and suppression.Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this? No.Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God?So judgmental. No. You must love yourself in order to love others. When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of?My version of prayer is asking for positivity and strength from spiritual energy around me. And I think of light. What is on your “spiritual bucket list?”Become successful at meditation. Continue to be open to positivity and to be more spiritually aware.
Let’s do it! I’m up for a challenge? Lol.
What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be? Singing in Sunday schoolWhat is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public? My wedding gownWhat is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone? I introduced my kids to JesusWhat is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie? When Jesus meets Mary in the garden before His ascension. Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion? YesHave you ever prayed in a public place? yes Have you ever participated in a religious service other than your own? yesHave you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God? More times then I care to count LOLAre you in a good relationship with God right now? YES!What do think God’s wish is for you? For me to know that He loves me and I can trust Him.Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s? I try to make it His- its easier when I can figure out what His desire is about something!
Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this? Not very often- humbleness and prayer.Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? I have but not by my choice. What relationships help you stay close to God? Ones with people who care close to God. When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of? Him, as my shepherd. sometimes my Heavenly Father and then there are times that I don’t think you could put a title on Him. He is Almighty, All loving, He is everything I need. The Great “I AM” What is on your “spiritual bucket list?” I want to read the Bible at least 2 more times cover to cover before I pass. I’d love to go to the Holy Lands. I want to live in such a way that when I die and stand before Him that He is smiling with a lot of joy.
Hello. My friend Valerie (murisopsis) exocuted this dare perfectly, and I thought I’d give it a go, myself, spent and hour and a half aswering the questions respectfully, made a link to your site, added you to my protected list. My laptop said: quick plug me in, or else! so I did, only, apparently not quite plugged in, enough, for as I was about to push the submit button – a mere nano second from that connection – the screen went dark and it was all lost. And there are those who do not believe in God. Existence is a miracle. Everything else pales by comparison. Be grateful, and embrace that Mystery.Sandra
What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be?My memories of ‘spiritual experiences’ seem to be mostly in my youth–I’m not sure which ones were the first. I remember that I had developed a habit of praying before I went to bed (and I very clearly remember that this was something that I decided on my own, randomly, and not because either of my parents asked me to). One day, my prayer just went very long because something inside my young self made me feel like the prayers I was saying at that moment were extremely important. It was late and I randomly started crying, I didn’t know why but I had started full out weeping because of this feeling that I had in my heart. This happened around the time I was 9 or 10. When I was 8, my family went to perform the lesser privilege in Saudi Arabia. In the city of Makkah, I remember having this odd feeling of peace, and the physical feeling of being there is still with me today. From stepping between the hot marble that had been scorching in the sun, to the cool marble that was safe from the Saudi heat within the shade of the masjid itself, to memories of prostating my head with the image of the Kabah and the white marble underneath it simply etched into my mind. 2. What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public? In Islam, I would argue that it is more important for religion to be ‘acted upon’ in public than to be ‘worn’ publicly. But to keep to the question, I wear the hijaab everyday. 3. What is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone?I try my best not to keep track of these things. Not to sound hoity-toity or all ‘art better than thou’, but everyone and the world has been kind to me, it only makes sense for me to try my best, as often as possible, to try to reflect the same back into the world. 4. What is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie?I don’t really know of any Islamic religious movies. But my favorite story from the Qur’an is of Moses and his interaction with Khidr. It’s a very interesting story about understanding God’s will, and the bigger picture of life and humanity. (Read more (I promise it’s NOT preachy): http://www.sunnah.org/history/prophets/Khidr.htm) 5. Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion?Only once. I hope to have more experiences praying with people from different religions. 6. Have you ever prayed in a public place?Yes I have! I’ve prayed in the dark, in a park, under a tree, beside the sea (it was a lake…but for rhyming purposes, ya know? I do hope to pray by a real sea though- God willing!). It’s an amazing experience praying whilst exposed to the elements and nature. 7. Have you ever participated in a religious service other than your own?I have participated in general services for interfaith type events, but not anything beside that. I hope to visit more places of different faiths more often. 8. Have you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God?I’m not quite sure what ‘spiritual comfort zone’ means. But in order to move closer to God, often we need to put other, more worldly things, aside and that is sometimes very hard for me to do–especially when you’re young and you feel like every single thing you’re doing (whether in college or taking those initial steps in your career) matters and decides the rest of your life. 9. Are you in a good relationship with God right now?I don’t know. God has been amazing to me, and I often do not try to grow or add onto the relationship as much as I should. When I was younger, I felt it was easier to drown within a spiritual ‘high’. Those don’t happen to me much anymore, and I often wonder if that’s because my relationship has grown (to where now I feel a certain sense of security knowing that God will take care of me, and whatever is to happen will be for the best for me–whether in this world or the Hereafter) or perhaps because I’ve allowed for other things to occupy my mind and heart (and soul) and have thereby allowed for everything else to desensitized this feeling. 10. What do think God’s wish is for you?I don’t know the answer to this, either. I try my best to just remember and have faith that whatever is to happen is somehow, in some way, best for me. And if I don’t see the result of it now, or in the future, then I hope to see the results of it in the Hereafter. 11. Whose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s?God’s should come first, but I’ll be the first to admit that I let my own desires come first many more times than they should. 12. Do you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this?Yes I do, and it’s something that I struggle with everyday. I often try to think of the bigger picture: not only of my own life, but of the world. The universe and its many issues, are much, much more bigger than I am and my own problems are. Also, talking with someone older and wiser often also helps put things into perspective. 13. Do you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God?Yes. I often seek close and truthful friendships to fill a void that only God can only fill. Being a young woman, the desire to be in a romantic relationship works the same way. There’s a hope that perhaps a man will be able to complete me, to fill my voids, and to help me heal. But that, again, is only an attempt to fill a spot that only God should take. As soon as you try to put a person (or people) in that space, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment and pain.My relationship with my mother, indirectly, helps me stay close to God–and this is only something that’s happened recently. 14. When you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of?In Islam, its disrespectful to create images of God and other Prophets of God, so I don’t have any personified image of God or anything. However, I do think of a light in vast darkness when I think of Him. When I was younger, there was a piece of art/calligraphy that hung in our living room of the words “Allah” and “Muhammad” written in golden in Arabic script on the sails of black and golden ships. Often when I pray, that image of the word “Allah” on the sail of the ship comes to mind–and now that I think about it, I guess it’s symbolic of how we should view life: if God is our sail and we are the ship, then we are leaving the course of our lives to be directed by God. 15. What is on your “spiritual bucket list?”I’ve always wanted to pray within all the different elements: in the mountains, in sand, on grassy rolling hills, in the desert, on bridges, in fields, etc. Recently, I’ve started having this massive itch to disconnect myself from all modes of communication and just be able to think and meditate in the mountains or somewhere surrounded by natural beauty. I hope, if/when I get married, that the first thing we do together after it is ‘official’ would be to pray together. In Islam, many often recite prayers on rosaries (many recite them/keep track of them on their fingers), I hope for said husband to keep track of his prayers on my fingers, and for me to keep track on his. I really hope to grow spiritually with my family, I mention husband particularly because I believe that type of love and commitment only can strengthen and supplement both the husband and wife’s relationship with God, while also strengthening love and devotion to each other in their marriage.Strangely enough, I also think that skydiving will be a spiritual experience. So I guess that would also be on my spiritual bucket list (as well as my non-spiritual bucket list hehe)!
What do you consider your first spiritual experience to be? during worship at a church summer camp, I felt the presence of God and I started crying What is the most religious thing you’ve ever worn in public? um a cross necklace, or ‘pray for africa’ shirtWhat is the kindest act you’ve ever done for someone? i don’t know exactly the kindest, but i gave $200 to someone i hadn’t met on xanga or even talked to on xanga because they had written some entries about how much they were struggling financiallyWhat is your favorite story from the Gospel or a religious movie? i like all the red text in my bible!
and the psalms! Have you ever prayed with someone from a different religion?yes! well more like on two occasions muslims at my work have been in a lot of emotional or physical pain and i ask them if i can pray for them and they say yes and i’ve just done it right there.Have you ever prayed in a public place?yesHave you ever participated in a religious service other than your own?other denominations of christianity yes, but not other religionsHave you ever gone outside your spiritual comfort zone in order to move closer to God?yesAre you in a good relationship with God right now?i would say yes, but i wish it were even betterWhat do think God’s wish is for you?to love HimWhose desires come first in your life: yours or God’s?you know, part of me is still fighting for some control, but I’m trying my best to give it all to HimDo you struggle with selfishness? What helps you overcome this?yes. trying to keep my focus on God and keep my life in perspectiveDo you struggle with false or empty relationships that distract you from your relationship with God? What relationships help you stay close to God?ummm maybe a little bit. Relationships with people who love God and are seeking after Him the same way I am always really help my walkWhen you pray, what is your image of God? What do you think of?it depends. sometimes I just picture myself talking to Jesus. sometimes I picture the Father as a huge, bright, warm lightWhat is on your “spiritual bucket list?” i want to be a missionary.
Let me just confess this … I am just a human being and I am a sinner. I have no idea of what to say more …
@SherryAngeLMysteriez - Not much more needs to be said, sister, except to add that Jesus loves you a great deal.
Cool questions! I’m going to see how far I get while both babies nap. This is better than my original agenda to clean out email that’s been piling up
@alterEGGO - I love, love, loved reading this! You’re awesome.
