  • Happy St. Valentine’s Day!

Here’s this year’s poem again, by itself, for those who missed it. Spread Jesus’ love to everyone, especially those who feel particularly unloved today.

    “Star-Crossed Love”

My love, my love, wherefore art thou, my love?

Deny thy father and refuse thy sin

that thy king who with thee hath fallen in

love may grant thee Himself, thy treasure-trove.

Savior I, sinner thou; what’s in a name?

For I by any other prove as sweet,

since in my flesh our varied natures meet

as lovers two, in love, be one-in-same.

Ah, but death; parting is such sweet sorrow!

Thus did I suffer its happy dagger,

bore uphill its weight ‘neath bleed and stagger,

pierced—ah!—my heart, poured out, love to follow

‘fore tomb black. But soft, what light be breaking?

Mine ever-love for thee, new and waking.

  • Happy Valentines Day!!! ^-^

  • Happy V-Day. Sweet poem to share.

  • Beautiful poem. Reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe’s Anabelle Lee :)

  • Hello. My name is Loveth ahijo, i went through your profile today and i wish to continue relationship with you if nature will permit we have a long way to go.through my private email (loveth18@yahoo.com) Thanks, Loveth…

  • @xxybaby96 -  Dear Loveth, peace. I am happy that what you have discovered about me on my blog pleases you, although I have to wonder not only as to the nature of the relationship you wish to pursue, but also the sincerity of your invitation. As it turns out your name and email address are all over the internet, and you include it within the same statement you have provided here. My first instinct is to dismiss this comment completely, however, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. If you are, truly, looking for a friend then please do send me a message. If this is a scam then of course I expect no reply. On the off chance you indeed are hoping that “nature will permit” a continued “relationship” between us then I must say that yes, NATURE would be very happy to permit such a relationship. However, upon really reading my blog and observing my profile you might have noticed that nature alone no longer guides my life, but rather Jesus Christ and His Bride, the Church, are my Lord and guiding star. So while nature alone may say one thing, the Word by which that very nature was made and will be redeemed, as well as the Instrument by which that redemption will be achieved, have already spoken for my nature, and thus I must decline your invitation for anything beyond being friends, whether the invitation is sincere or not.

God’s many kind blessings on you,

    Jacob

  • Who would have thought that one sworn to celibacy could take from the Bard and devise so moving a paean? Those who know you, that’s who. This has to be the profoundest thing I’ve read about the holiday in recent memory.

    @Ancient_Scribe -
    good reply

  • @wrybreadspread -  Thank you! I’ve been writing these poems for the ladies of Xanga I think since 2003 or thereabouts, changing the tone of the poems to match my current state of life around 2007 I think. You should be able to search the archives of my blog for all the February 14ths of the past if you’d like to read more poetry!

As for this one in particular, when I was thinking about what to write I thought that when most people think of romance and love Romeo and Juliet come to mind. So I decided to poetically remind everyone that Jesus beats the socks of Romeo any day!

  • And how could I overlook the references to the 45th Psalm & the doctrines of the Incarnation & Passion?

  • @wrybreadspread -  You caught me there, too! Psalm 45 is one of my favorites.

  • Is this in fact psalm 45 or is this from some place else?

  • @devour_my_broken_soul -  I wrote this; every year since 2003 I’ve written a St. Valentine’s Day poem for all the women of Xanga, especially those that didn’t have a Valentine of their own. For this year’s poem I borrowed from thoughts from Shakespeare to contrast a popular idea of romance with the real love Christ shows us all, but also have some echoes of Psalm 45 in there. But the poem is original; I wrote it on January 29th since I had several other poems to write for people, too! I hope you enjoyed it!

  • @Ancient_Scribe - I think that’s a spam bot.

  • @NightCometh - Oh I have very little doubt that you are right. But in the very unlikely event that there is a human soul behind that comment, then there is a human heart, too, and I don’t mind going out of my way to try and respect the possibility, even if it is a remote one!
