Nerd Freak Out

So Wednesday night, at the encouragement of my voice instructor, I auditioned for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
I was accepted!!!!
I will for sure be performing with them in April and May, for the double-feature of Barber’s “Prayers of Kierkegaard” and Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, and then “Carmina Burana” in May.
In early April, though, they will be screening “The Fellowship of the Ring” while the orchestra and chorus performs the music. Can you IMAGINE?!?! I haven’t been asked to sing for that yet, but today I got the email that went out to the whole chorus which contains the translation and pronunciation guides for all the Black Speech, Sindarin, Quenya, and Dwarvish texts…I’m in nerd heaven right now!!!!!

That’s awesome, congrats!
Dude! I think that’s awesome that they give the chorus the translation as well!
That’s INSANE! In a good way, haha! That is uber cool, congratulations!

Hey that’s awesome! I didn’t know you took voice lessons!!? You should post some of you singing!
That is epic in the sense it should be used! Bon courage!
What did you sing for auditions? Did you have to sight read?
Is it weird I’m more excited about the Prayers of Kierkegaard than LOTR? Congrats!
nice
Freaking wonderful
so happy for you!
I think this is a sure sign (if any were needed) that God is happy with the work you’ve been doing so far. Perhaps his way of saying ‘Keep it up’.
wow! Sounds fantastic Jacob! Congrats, sir.
Incredible! Congratulations!
How exciting
Woo hoo!!!!! So excited for you.
this post made me laugh so hard!!!

I do! I’m a bass; I will try and record something one of these days. My audition piece was “On the Shore” by W.H. Neidlinger and yes, I had to do some sight reading which I TOTALLY failed on. Egads! But my prepared piece and scales were excellent and they are convinced that I can learn whatever music they throw at me, even if I can’t learn it instantly.

Finally! Someone used “epic” correctly!

Not weird at all!

Singing Lord of the Rings… boy will your throat be tired.
Grats.
I saw that they are doing LOTR in April and I’m so going to see that. Congrats on being accepted and may be I’ll get to listento you if you’re apart of LOTR performance. Way cool!!

Again, it isn’t for sure that I’ll be in it but I’ll let you know if that changes! Otherwise I already have a ticket for April 2nd’s performance. Do you have your ticket already? Perhaps we could have a mini Xanga meet beforehand!
Carmina Burana?!? That’s one of my favorite pieces ever! And I’m talking about the whole thing, not just the bit everyone knows…
Mahler’s amazing too…I’m playing horn in Mahler 3 this spring and I’m already WAAAAY too freaking excited!
Congrats!
I’m interested to know what someone like your views are on peoples posts like this

What she said.
Some writers have compared the Valar and Maiar to the Cherubim. By extrapolation, might the Eldar be the equivalent of the Saints? And, whimsically speaking, might we invoke the intercession of the
Saints in this your venture?
Tom Bombadil, arguably a Maia, was perpetually singing.
The Eldar were constantly singing. Legolas sang. The most renowned was Maglor, son of Feanor. He sang his lament while he wandered along the shores of Beleriand after the overthrow of Morgoth.
So there you go. A litany of literary intercesors

Sure; whimsy has a wide berth! But I prefer my confirmation patron, St. Gregory the Great, patron of singers.
Thank you for the Silmarillion references; it is my favorite fictional work!
Nerdy is the new cool. Show ‘em who’s boss!
YAY JACOB!!!
So happy for you, congratulations! Wish I could visit you and watch!
AHHHHHH CONGRATULATIONS!!! I AM SO THRILLED FOR YOU!! You have to tell me all about it because I don’t really sing anymore so I gotta live vicariously.
And you should totally record something! Eeeee I’m so excited for you!

Our first rehearsal last week was amazing. They are all such skilled singers, so even sight reading a piece for the first time sounded amazing! We rehearsed Barber’s “Prayers of Kierkegaard” and Mahler’s 2nd Symphony. Here’s a view from the stage: http://southamptonstl.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Powell_1.jpg
