  • “… he must take up his cross, and follow Me.”

(I kneel before the altar and the presiding Provincials elevate the Body of Christ and the chalices filled with the Precious Blood while I recite the following.)

“Almighty and eternal God, I, Jacob…, though altogether most unworthy in your divine sight, yet relying on your infinite goodness and mercy and moved with a desire of serving you, in the presence of the most holy Virgin Mary and your whole heavenly court, vow to your Divine Majesty perpetual poverty, chastity and obedience in the Society of Jesus; and I promise that I shall enter that same Society in order to lead my entire life in it, understanding all things according to its Constitutions. Therefore I suppliantly beg your immense Goodness and Clemency, through the blood of Jesus Christ, to deign to receive this holocaust in an odor of sweetness; and that just as you gave me the grace to desire and offer this, so you will also bestow abundant grace to fulfill it.

I just wanted to share with you a little bit of what will happen on Saturday. This is the vow formula I will recite; my vows to Our Lord Jesus Christ, fully present before me in the Eucharist. It will take place in the context of the Mass, I believe right after the Sign of Peace and before the Agnus Dei (though I am unsure… I’ll find out at rehearsal tomorrow!). Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes; a few of you will be there in person, and a few more will be particularly in my heart, and all of you will be there in my prayer. God bless you all, and I hope to update again within the week, time permitting!

  • I promise when I receive Holy Communion on Saturday to offer my prayers for your intention. Congratulations, and God bless!

  • God bless you, Jacob! =)

  • How beautiful. I will be praying for you.

  • What an exciting time. I will most definitely keep you in my prayers. May God & our most Blessed Virgin Mary be with you always!

  • This is so beautiful.  I admire you and your faith greatly.

I long for faith, but there’s something inside me stopping it from happening and I don’t understand why.

Though I don’t know you, I am so happy for you.

  • @walkintotheseaaa -

Thank you for your comment. I will bring you to the altar with me tomorrow and ask our Lord for the gift of faith for you. It can be such a difficult thing, faith. It takes time, I think, for our hearts to loosen up and find enough willingness to admit, “I cannot do everything myself.” It takes time, it takes courage to surrender to God and to let him do what he wants with us, and what he wants to do is LOVE us completely. Once we start to allow him to love us, faith begins to grow and to blossom like some beautiful flower that knows no winter, blooming through the snows of challenge despite anything. Be patient, and know that God loves you always and forever. I will start praying for you!

  • @Ancient_Scribe - Recently I’ve been reading the Q&A of the Shorelines/Regnum Christi/Legionaires of Christ website.  It was there that I learned the private prayer of consecration I unwittingly but willingly made many times when I first began discernment was perfectly acceptable in the Church!  While I like the perfectly Romantic prose of the prayer there above, I’d never trade it for the minutes I’d spend bowed on the floor before the tiny crucifix way up high on the wall.   I cannot wait for the day when I will (God Willing) make my own vows.  How’s it feel to finally be there?

@walkintotheseaaa - The heart is a muscle, it needs to be stretched before it can begin to jog a block, rest and stretch some more, and move on – until it’s fit enough to run the marathon. The same with the heart of our faith.

  • Hello!

I feel a little strange just waltzing into your blog like this, but I have a question on your vow of celibacy.

Is it a lifelong vow? What if, one day in the future, God speaks to you and tells you to take a wife?

    Thank you.

  • How beautiful and amazing! May God bless you abundantly

  • @Ancient_Scribe - Thank you so much.  This means the world to me.

Speaking with you may greatly help on my journey to acquiring faith.

Things have been so painful for me, and I’m hopeful that faith will come in to my life and be beneficial.

  • @walkintotheseaaa - My life is as much a gift for others as it is a gift for myself; that is one of the beautiful aspects of our existence. I am so happy that my life story is bringing you grace and consolation; one never knows how God will work through us! I would be more than happy to speak with you, about whatever you wish. Xanga messaging, I find, works best for this! The next week might prove very busy for me, as I transition from novitiate to university. But I promise you won’t be forgotten, and I will answer questions as soon as I am able! God bless you, and I have been praying for you since your first comment!

  • Congradulations once again and a million times over, dearest friend!

  • so? how was it?!?  I bet it was a spiritual and emotional blast.  & Congrats again!

  • It was front page of the Tipton Conservative this week that Sci-Fi would be filming a remake of Children of the Corn in spots in Tipton and Wilton during the month of September. Some of the locations possibly to be used included the old jail and Fifth Street, near the Hardacre Theater. My mom and uncle confirmed it, but they don’t know when the filming dates are. They’ll be filming less than a block away from my aunt and uncles house.
They want to set the movie in the 1970′s, though, and they recently did all that work on the sidewalk outside on main street to make it look nice.
Over 4,000 kids applied for 18 roles in the film. Sort of cool to say that our hometown will be featured in a film, even if it is a made for Sci-Fi Saturday night movie.
Hope you have a great week!

  • What a gorgeous offering and blessing to the Father’s heart. You truly have given him everything, just as he has given everything for you. I am fully confidant he has great and mighty works for you to further the kingdom of Christ. He has already used you in so many ways in my life (and I’m sure everyone else on here could say the same), and I am eternally grateful. I prayed for your blessings and peace on Saturday, and I continue to keep you in my prayers.

Grace and Peace to you, brother

  • Scratch the film happening in Tipton or Wilton. Apparently, the town is too prosperous and doesn’t lookk run down enough for the filming of Children of the Corn.
I blame the recent downtown renovation to Main Street. Those sidewalks look so much nicer than they used to… My bet is if they’re still looking for rundown, they should check out Moscow, Clarence, Rochester, Stanwood or Lowden in Cedar County. It’s too bad, though. It would’ve been cool to see a film being made in Tipton.
    Have a great week!

  • I came to see you via “Shades of Annie”.  Belated congrats on your vows!

  • hehe definitely an awesome entry.. congrats on your vows man.. hehe good luck with everything towards the ordination.. i would love to see
