OK so JUST when we finish with a three-day silent retreat… we enter Holy Darkness! Basically, I think, we go on an electricity fast until Christmas, using only candles as light sources. That also means no TV or computers… so as a very brief update, I’m doing spectacularly! I am super excited for Christmas and I can’t WAIT to go home for a few days! How is everyone else out there? Anyone hoping for anything especially special for Christmas? Well, I guess I’ll xanga you all sometime in the future!

Sounds like fun! Do they shut off the heat as well? Too bad my parents wouldn’t go for something like that. How long does your Holy Darkness last? Of course, these questions might be futile, if you’re already on it… daggit!
Flea fish ewe a mare egrets moose panda hippo gnu deer! (Sing this to a popular Christmas tune and you might get it, hehe.)
Wow. That could be very interesting.
It’s really neat, as I’ve said before to others, but maybe not here, to see some of the same traditions preserved you would’ve faced under older orders of the Jesuit priesthood. It has to make you respect the conveniences that have been introduced in your own life a lot more., as well as give you a taste of what they did.
I’m mainly hoping to spend time with my family this Christmas. I am off from 7:30 p.m. this evening until 2 p.m. Monday. That will be a fair amount of time off, and give me some time to play games and relax. Tomorrow, I’m headed to Iowa City to do some last minute shopping with my mom.
Apparently, my dad is even sending me a present this year. That’s a big shocker, since I never saw anything from him for graduating college.
Other than that, I hope to at least get the Spider-Man Handbook. Mom bought me another copy of The Office: Season One to replace my missing copy, which means I’m going to wander in the house and find the one I lost., in the ultimate sense of irony. Other than that, anything else I get is just icing on the cake.
And Maje, that was pretty good. It took me a few seconds, but I finally found the right tune. Very cute.
Merry Christmas, Jake
