To think that by the end of this week, the child whose birth we celebrated only a few months ago will be be unjustly condemned and put to death for you.
It really makes me think of the brevity of life; Jesus’ life was cut short, even when considering life expectancy back then. It boggles my mind for God, who is outside of all time, to have his Son be born a human being, utterly subject to time, and a very short time at that.
“Not as of old, a little child to bear and fight and die, yet crowned with glory like the sun that peaks the morning sky.” –”The King Shall Come” And Christ was still just as innocent as when he was born.
Christ could have had a lengthy life before the crucifixion. The motivation would be simple: to reach and speak to as many people as possible. But he subjected himself to every aspect of mortality, including, in his case, never reaching old age, an untimely death. It is sad and striking.
