  • What is beauty?

What is beauty? That’s a very important question and, fortunately I feel that I have an answer.

    Beauty is.

Think about it… “is” is merely a form of the verb “to be.” Beauty, I believe, is not so much a quality or appearance but is more like a reality, a truth that cannot be manufactured or improved upon but can only be accepted and revealed. Beauty exists; that’s what beauty is to me. All created things reflect the creator and being that God is so beautiful, His creation reflects His beauty. I believe this is especially evident in women, whom I see not so much as merely the opposite gender but, truly, as living, breathing mirrors off of whom the greater beauty of God is reflected. When I see a woman, I see a blurred but amazing glimpse of God’s beauty, and I can never cease being grateful for this gift. I wish that all woman could realize that God created them beautiful. I wish they could let the truth of this beauty sink to the very depth of themselves, that they could realize even more the beauty of God and His love for all people.

A woman cannot make herself more beautiful; nor can a man, for that matter. Beauty can only be accepted and revealed, and should always be done so with the realization that a person’s beauty is not their own but is God’s beauty entrusted to them, to be shared with the entire world in a way that ever more glorifies He who has given us everything. I LOVE beauty!

I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

  • And beauty is truth, as in the truth of God’s creation as the power of His love for us.  You hit it on the mark, once again!  May I quote this text for my video essay if I find a place for it (no guarantees)?

    Editing is going very well.

  • I LOVE YOU!! And beauty too

  • You know, I think those two movies should be on my Christmas list…  I’ll give the parents a call.    And Stardust as well.

  • Yeah, I watched it.  Daggit, that movie will always make me cry at the end.  Have a wonderful day of ministry!

  • ryc:  thanks.  I feel drained by the other comments, although I know that people mean well and are trying to understand.  Reflecting on it literally draws me back into a mood of how I felt after leaving the cult.

  • I’d forgotten that I had already made a comment on the one you left …

  • Oh, I know.  It’s just the way it happened last weekend.  There really was no time on Friday or Saturday.  Actually, RJ sent me a facebook message wishing me a happy Sunday with a subtext of taking a break.  Hmm…  Anyway, watching The Last Samuri was definitely worth it.  Any suggestions for a movie this Sunday?

  • Well, I’ve seen Pride and Prejudice recently, and I don’t have Amadeus…  But I could rent it… Or I could rent Children of Men, which I really want to see.

  • As always, you have some pretty interesting views on this issue. Speaking of views, have you been able to read Inferno yet?
Hope you have a great week!

  • That was FANTASTIC; perfect song in both mood and lyrics, too.

And guess what I just saw with the girls?  Heck yeah, Transformers.    Optimus Prime rules.  Funny script, too.  Yay!  And I’m even more excited about sleeping as long as I want…

  • However, I’m sure you don’t find this nearly as difficult as it is for me.

  •  I just might do that. I know that my equipment isn’t that great. I think I need to talk to my sister a little bit more, too, to find out what important shots she wants taken of the wedding, besides the standards of the wedding shower, wedding party, rehearsal dinner, family photos and reception of cutting the first piece of cake, as well as if she would like some done in black/white and some in color. That makes a difference, especially in film cameras. Plus, I’ll probably grab some 800 ISO film. The rolls I have at home which are ancient and would turn out really, really grainy, but would work if I wanted to take photos of Christmas at our house this year, just because I want to and to use my camera again.
The wedding is still a ways off, though, so I have plenty of time to pick up a few pointers before then. I’m just going to be making several trips to Tipton this summer. My sister’s graduation in May, you coming back sometime in June and my sister’s wedding in July… Those miles and gas will add up. Maybe I can convince my mom/sister to pay for my gas as payment for being photographer for the wedding.
    Thanks for the headsup.
Don’t worry about not being through with Inferno. I was just checking. Hope you have a great week!

  • Mozart’s Requiem?  Jealous much.  Have a wonderful All Hallows!

And I finally got my SLU application stuff in the mail…  Pray for that, please…

  • Thanks for the comment .. that was a lot to write!  As a sinner, I just seem to hit pockets where all I can do is doubt myself, and how I can possibly do anything.  Of course the answer and the rationalization is much like the sermon I heard last night at Vigil: NOthing is impossible for God, so He  can call and qualify me if He chooses!  I like the quotation from the saint that you offered.

  • thanks! Happy Feast of All Souls to you too!
