  • This is the ceiling of the Society of Jesus’ mother church, The Gesu, in Rome.

I’m sorry about the lack of posting as of late. Things have been very busy around the novitiate, and when they weren’t I never had any idea what to post about! I still don’t have much of an idea, so I thought I would try to turn to my small but faithful audience for ideas.

It should come as no surprise to any visitors that I am Catholic. I know that some, but not all, of my visitors are Catholic. One thing that all my visitors likely have in common is that they have questions about the Catholic Church. I don’t know everything, but I do know quite a bit and I have all the resources I need to answer most questions.

So, what would you like to know about the Catholic Church?

  • You could write about St. Maria Galgani (I’m sorry if I misspelled her name) and what kind of inspiration you draw from her.

Or, since nothing big has happened lately, I have a question about your individual faith: in your daily life as a novice, where is God most present to you?  (I kind of already know, but it could be interesting to write about.  And, well, I dont’ know *everything*.)

I’ll try to think of more, I promise.

  • Well, I really like the depth/height the painter accomplished on the ceiling!

Topics: why is Mary’s mantle the color of the sky?  Has belief in Purgatory fallen out of favor? How is lectio divina and personal Bible study separate from the Protestant sola scriptura Bible study?  Did someone in your life inspire you to enter the priesthood or to consider it?

  • Where does the Catholic Church stand on the issue of Harry Potter and other works of literary fiction that might have views that are akin to talking about witchcraft and how do you reconcile that difference (if there is one) with your own beliefs?
That’s a question I’ve wondered since one of my bosses at Luther Hall Maintenance at Wartburg sort of brought it up but I could never find anything on the matter.
And don’t worry if you’re busy at the JEsuit. There are some weeks where I’ve debated not keeping my site updated, but it’s just become second nature for me.
Hope you have a great week!

  • Oh, the lectio divina versus sola scriptura could be very interesting…  I find the concept of sola scriptura rather silly, myself.

  • What is the nature of faith? Is it a gift of grace that not everyone receives or is it something that anyone can have? Why then does it come so easily to some, with work but eventually to others, and never despite a lifetime of trying to still others?

  • I came across your site many months ago…by way of TheTheologiansCafe.  You’re in the seminary, yes?  I must say two things, first, it is absolutely fantastic to see a young male interested in the faith and becoming a priest.  You give me hope for the future generations of Catholics.  And second, I enjoy very much reading your site.  Just in reading some of your posts I have learned quite a bit about a faith in which I have been involved for 20+ years.  And I thank you for that.  Recently a friend of mine left to go to the seminary in Boston.  I pray for him daily and you are in my prayers as well.  Thank you for your words, teachings, and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
