  • Intermission

Well, I only have one more journal entry from the Spiritual Exercises to post, but I’m going to save it for tomorrow. I am leaving on my pilgrimage on Saturday, so I won’t be updating for another month.

Pilgrimage, what is that? Well, in my case it is where I go live as a homeless beggar pretty much, for thirty days. I’m given a phone card to keep in touch with the novitiate, $35, and a one-way bus ticket to a starting location. From there I’ve decided I’ll be begging my way to Maine, and I have some loose plans made to stay with the Shakers there for a time. (Above is a picture of one of the buildings.)

So, pray for all of us novices as we scatter into the world! Some of us are headed to D.C., Maryland, Seattle, New Orleans; a few even to Mexico City to Our Lady of Guadalupe! Very few are going straight to their destination; most are taking a bus part way and then begging the rest of the way and then working their way back to St. Paul somehow. Exciting, isn’t it?

So, if during the next month you see a young man walking along with nothing but what he is wearing, a backpack on his back and prayer on his lips, you may have just seen a Jesuit novice! I think it will be my province and the California province out on pilgrimage starting this weekend, so who knows who you might run into!! I’ll post my final pre-pilgrimage entry tomorrow night or Saturday before I leave so until I get back from pilgrimage, know that I’ll keep you all in my prayers and that I’ll miss being a small electronic part of your lives!

                                                                                            Yours in Christ, Jacob

  • “Good Luck” doesn’t suffice.  30 days without a shower, a brush and tootpaste, a “proper” toilet, no sleeping bag, no change of underwear .  You’ll walk holes into your shoes before you are through.  Prayers, without a doubt.
Have fun with the Shakers! ~ Are there any Shakers alive today?  I know there are start-ups of youth today, but any alive from “back then”?

  • You guys are rock-awesome-incredible.  In a way, I wish I could do the same thing, but it would be far less safe for me…  So I’ll just pray for you guys instead.

  • Wow… good luck!!!!! And hey, if you happen by CF on your way, you know there’s a comfy futon and plenty of mac & cheese waiting for you here!
